Singapore Sling Psych-garage dalla gelida Islanda – Italian/English version

singapore sling

                                  I N T R O

Tower Of Fornocity esprime la miglior musica psych-garage che circola in questo momento in Europa: riff ripetitivi e beat dritti (Careful, I’m Evil, I Hate Myself, For All Your Sins), surf music che sposa il lato più oscuro e ansiogeno della new wave e del garage (You Drive Me Insane, Absolute Garbage, In With The Out), mantra rock’n’roll e pennellate kraut (Kill Baby Kill, Let’s Go, Nuthin’s Real), momenti più rilassati con un tocco di psichedelia 60’s (Who Put The Ebb in The Ebbebebb, My Obsessive Love,Tired). Abbiamo intervistato Henrik Björnsson a proposito del nuovo disco e dell'imminente tour europeo 2015.

L'INTERVISTA

Henrik Björnsson  (Singapore Sling) - Si, ho conosciuto Caspar Dee (Fuzz Club Records) attraverso “The Reverb Conspiracy”.

Andrete in tour?

Cosa potete dire a riguardo?

The Velvet Underground, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cramps, Link Wray, Wire, Lee Hazlewood, Beat Happening, Bo Diddley, Eddie Cochran, The Gun Club.... Potrei andare avanti ancora. E ancora e ancora.

INTERVIEW WITH SINGAPORE SLING

singaporeRuben Gavilli (Distorsioni) - The  "The Tower Of Foroncity” opening track, You Drive me Insane was included in “Reverb Conspiracy III” but this is not the first time your music appear on the compilation, in fact you did in “Reverb Conspiracy I” with Nothing Inside. Have things changed in this time for you?

Henrik Björnsson  (Singapore Sling) - Yeah I got to know Casper Dee through The Reverb Conspiracy. That´s how Fuzz Club went on to release Singapore Sling's records.

Your last record The Tower Of Foroncity expresses all the influences that you had already listed: rough rock’n’roll, mantra drones, kraut, garage punk and wave from the 80’s and neo – psychedelia from the 90’s. Can you talk more about it? What kind of expectations do you have bout it? Are you going to tour or something?

I think it´s a one of a kind classic. I expect the fans will love it and the others, well, who cares? Yes, we will be touring Europe in March and we´ll be doing some shows in Italy which we are very much looking forward to.

singapore slingWhich are the mean and the concept behind the word 'Foroncity'?

It´s a state of utter ridiculousness. Horrible ridiculousness. You´re in the tower of foronicity when things have been horribly ridiculous for an extended period of time and it seems like it will go on forever.

You come from Iceland, which for the last twenty years has been involving the more and more with music: you participated to this, you formed in 2000. What can you say about that? Do Icelanders have a peculiar music taste or style? What kind of relationship do you have with other Icelandic bands such as Dead Skeletons, The Third Sound?

There are some unique, brilliant musicians and they are that because they  don´t give a fuck about what everyone else is doing or what anyone might think of them. The unique ones have a unique style and taste in music. The others just want to do what´s popular at the moment. Well, I formed the Dead Skeletons with Jón Sæmundur and made 50% of the music with him. And Hákon, who used to play guitar in Singapore Sling, is the leader of The Third Sound.

slingOne of your previous records is called “Life Is Killing My Rock’n’Roll”, that is a pun on a Suicide song; you also released a 2 disc compilation album, “Silver Monk Time”, as a tribute to 60’s garage band the Monk. These two releases well define what kind of music has an ascendant on your sound. Can you tell us other bands who have influenced your music style and conception?

The Velvet Underground, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cramps, Link Wray, Wire, Lee Hazlewood, Beat Happening, Bo Diddley, Eddie Cochran, The Gun Club.... I could go on. And on and on.
