The Lysergics riaffiorano dalle nebbie profumate e colorate della Swinging London per realizzare un disco di psichedelia consapevole e matura, con il cuore nel passato e la mente ferma nel presente. Si tratta di musica concettuale ed evoluta dove la liquida ed incessante tessitura delle tastiere di Sarah Gonputh crea l'humus ideale per la messa a fuoco dell'idea di base, per poi procedere verso la creazione di un suono fresco e riverberato, supportato da una brillante produzione, che sembra attingere alle tecniche e trucchi dei primi due albums della Jimi Hendrix Experience, quando il suono era inafferrabile, maestoso e pareva percorso dal vento perpetuo. Comunque, tutti i suoni sono perfetti e i musicisti sono brillanti. La batteria è secca ed essenziale. Le voci sono cariche di echo, ma tutto è misurato alla perfezione per creare un vero gioiellino di equilibrio. Il lavoro trasuda di reale passione per i sixties, di amore per i suoni beat e psych e l'impressione è che i componenti della band vivano quell'epoca come esperienza intima quotidiana. L'album, uscito originariamente esattamente un anno fa su piattaforma digitale, è stato ora stampato su vinile dall'etichetta tedesca Clostridium Records, con due brani in meno rispetto alla versione digitale, Head In My Hands e Unfaithful. 

Fautori di una psichedelia ricercata, partono dalle intuizioni di Syd Barrett, evidenti nelle aperture di Invisible Bars, per elaborare il loro percorso,  la loro visione personale, che si avvicina alle convulsioni garage in Head In My Hands, con la batteria incalzante e le chitarre aggressive fino a sfiorare intuizioni  già incontrate nei Fuzztones. Tuttavia la sensazione è che la band prosegua per il proprio personale cammino, incontrando a volte assonanze con artisti contemporanei, ma solo per identità di ispirazione ai modelli culturali di partenza. Sun and Moon prende il riff immortale ed imprescindibile di Children Of The Revolution e lo fa proprio, stemperandolo con il contrappunto di tastiere dalle tonalità trascinanti e l'assolo di chitarra finale è veramente degno di nota. I cori sono arrangiati in modo eccellente. The Lysergics forniscono una versione attuale di un genere molto praticato nel corso degli anni e per far questo ricorrono anche a suoni e profumi orientali arrangiati in modo originale, riuscendo nell'alchimia di evocare  posti e situazioni sognati, che mai si ricordano troppo bene e che, forse,  esistono solo nella nostra immaginazione.

Unfaithful ha un incedere di organo memore della lezione di Brian Auger e potrebbe  fornire l'ideale colonna sonora per la ri-edizione di “Performer” o di “Blow-Up”. Il pezzo è uno strumentale che evolve in forma libera di improvvisazione per terminare in un crescendo minaccioso. Blue Lines Splashing Orange inaugura il trittico di canzoni, con On The Water e Julie's Glance (quasi 16 minuti di jam session psichedelica, con l'harmonica di Mongelli), che si pongono come veri e propri esperimenti di espansione della mente, con un incedere ossessivo a voler quasi cercare di stimolare la perdita dei freni inibitori, un insieme di suoni concentrici a favorire esperienze fuori dal corpo. On The Water è una meraviglia cantata dalla tastierista Sarah Gonputh, la chitarra dell'italiano (di Bari) trapiantato a Londra Fabio Mongelli (fondatore, factotum e compositore principale della band) si fa eterea per raggiungere i propri registri mistici e regalarci ragnatele di delizie psichedeliche simili ad acque cristalline di una cascata rinfrescante. A volte pare gustare sapori di psichedelia americana con note ad evocare il Dave Roback del periodo Smith, Roback & Mitchell. Anche il modo di cantare pare voler omaggiare Kendra Smith.    [di F.B.]

[di P.W.B.]    A rivendicare orgogliosamente ancora di più le profonde radici fine sixties di questo debutto, ciliegina sulla torta, la bella e densa rivisitazione (ottima performance vocale di Fabio) di 10,000 Words In A Cardboard Box, un vecchio stupendo brano inciso dell'esegeta psichedelico britannico John ‘Twink’ Alder (Tomorrow, The Pretty Things, Pink Fairies, The Stars, The Ring) per la prima volta su 45 giri nel 1968 con i suoi Aquarian Age. Sarà ripreso dall'artista nel suo "Think Pink", famoso capolavoro garage-psichedelico del 1970. Ed è proprio l'anziano John ‘Twink’ Alder (ormai di fede musulmana), le cui strade si sono incrociate in Inghilterra come per miracolo con quelle di Fabio e Sarah, ad aver sostituito da poco alla batteria Eleanora Claps (presente in tutto questo disco) nella nuova line-up dei Lysergics. In un'ideale incredibile ponte tra passato e presente. Cosa ci riserva, a questo punto, il futuro dei Lysergics?

The Lysergics resurface with fragrant mists of Swinging London to make a record of conscious and mature psychedelia, with the heart stops inthe past and the mind in the present. It is conceptual music and evolved where the liquid and incessant weaving keyboards, played by Sarah Gonputh, creates the ideal breeding ground for the focus of the basic idea, and then proceed to create a fresh and reverberated sound, supported by a brilliant production, which seems to draw on the techniques and tricks of the first two albums of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, when the sound was elusive, and seemed majestic path wind perpetuity. However, all the sounds are perfect and the musicians are excellent. The drums are dry and essential,  the items are loaded with echo, but everything is measured to perfection to create a real gem of balance. The work exudes real passion for the sixties, love for the beat and psych sounds, and the impression is that the band live this time as intimate daily experience. The album, originally released exactly a year ago on the digital platform, has now been printed on vinyl by Clostridium Records with two more tracks than the digital version, Head In My Hands and Unfaithful.

Authors of a psychedelic sought leave from the insights of Syd Barrett, evident in the openings of Invisible Bars, to process their path, their personal vision, approaching convulsions garage in Head In My Hands, with the  pressing drums  and aggressive guitars to nearly insights already encountered in Fuzztones. However the feeling is that the band will continue for its own path, sometimes encountering similarities with contemporary artists, but only to the same inspiration to the cultural patterns of departure. Sun and Moon takes the immortal riffs and unavoidable Children Of The Revolution and make it his own, adding  the counterpoint of tones of catchy keyboards and the guitar solo at the end is really noteworthy. The choirs are arranged in an excellent way. The Lysergics provide a current version of a genre very popular over the years and they are not afraid using sounds and oriental perfumes arranged in an original way, succeeding in alchemy to evoke places and situations dreamed, ever remember not too well and that perhaps they exist only in our imagination.

Unfaithful has a gait organ mindful of the lesson of Brian Auger and could provide the perfect soundtrack for the re-edition of "Performer" or "Blow-Up". The piece is an instrumental that evolves in the form of free improvisation to end in a crescendo threatening. Blue Lines Splashing Orange opens the triptych of songs, with On The Water and Julie's Glance (almost 16 minutes of psychedelic jam session, with the harmonica played by Mongelli), which are presented as real mind-expanding experiments , with a gait almost obsessive to want to try to stimulate the loss of inhibitions, a set of concentric sounds encouraging experiences out of the body. On The Water is beautifully, sung by keyboardist Sarah Gonputh,  the guitar of the Italian guy from Bari Fabio Mogelli, who moved to London (founder, factotum and main songwriter of the band) becomes ethereal to achieve their mystical records giving us cobwebs of delights psychedelic similar to the crystal clear waters of a refreshing waterfall. Sometimes it seems to taste flavors of American psychedelia with notes to evoke the Smith, Mitchell & Roback. Even the way of singing seems to want to pay homage Kendra Smith.  [by F.B.]

[by P.W.B.]    A claim proudly even more the deep roots of this debut late sixties, icing on the cake, the beautiful and dense reinterpretation (excellent vocal performance of Fabio) 10,000 Words In A Cardboard Box, a beautiful old song recorded by the exegete of the British Psychedelic Movement, Mr.  John 'Twink' Alder (Tomorrow, The Pretty Things, Pink Fairies, The Stars, The Ring) for the first time over 45” in 1968 with his Aquarian Age. It will be taken over by the artist in its "Think Pink", famous garage-psychedelic masterpiece of 1970. And it is the elder John 'Twink' Alder (now Muslim), whose paths crossed in England as a miracle with those of Fabio and Sarah, to have recently replaced on drums Eleanora Claps (present throughout this record) in the new line-up of The Lysergics. In an ideal incredible bridge between past and present. What's in store, at this point, the future of Lysergics?
