A breve distanza dall'album di esordio omonimo di fine marzo, i Druid ci regalano questo nuovo three tracks EP, registrato in aprile, nel quale propongono due canzoni originali ed una cover, Sonic Titan, degli Sleep. Se col precedente lavoro si erano concentrati sugli aspetti del suono psych/stoner evoluto, influenzato da commistioni ed impollinazioni con sensazioni hard/ progressive dei primi anni '70, qui esplorano il lato doom, introspettivo, pesante e meno sperimentale della loro arte. Procedono per sottrazione dall'ampia tavolozza sonica del precedente lavoro e mantengono il mood generale più asciutto, solennemente pesante, minaccioso e disseminato di grandi riff di chitarra,  ormai marchio di fabbrica del trio di Athens, OH. I Druid si sono immersi nel fiume Blue Cheer per tonificare la propria  personalità, classe e talento per realizzare un lavoro maturo di cristallina variazione sul tema  del muro del suono. Greg Ornella produce brillantemente il lavoro, confermandosi elemento essenziale alla forgiatura del suono del power trio. La cura é ancora più definita, con timbriche essenziali imbevute di fantastici assoli di chitarra spaziale, voci aggressive, ma  pulite, ed armonie sorrette da precisi suoni di batteria senza fronzoli. Il suono rimane comunque assordante e crudo, quasi a voler piegare l'universo al proprio volere di maestri doom.

Altarsong apre l'EP con un incedere blues elettrico, con un ritmo incessante di batteria che sostiene tutta la intro strumentale. La chitarra poi rallenta le sue frustate per cambiare registro quando subentra la voce ricca di echi narcolettici. Riprende poi, risoluta, per sostenere una progressione variabile che mutua tecniche mantriche intese a stimolare il raggiungimento di consapevolezza ultraterrena attraverso l'espansione mentale. Sonic Titan era eseguita dagli Sleep nei propri live acts con  trasporto mistico a declamare i toccanti versi “Look in the eyes of an enchanted being”, “Plant from the moon and stars will help me see”, “Enter the mind of an enchanted being”. Non appare in nessun loro disco ufficiale ed é reperibile solo su bootleg. La sua interpretazione non era né scontata, né priva di difficoltà e trappole, ma i Druid convincono reinventandola attraverso una versione partecipata ed intensa,  una esperienza free form di  doom  misurato, quasi a volersi perdere nella natura, divenire una sola cosa con la madre terra in un anelito pagano. Paper Square già rifulgeva di scariche doom nell'album di debutto. La chitarra inframezza riff devastanti, che sorreggono una voce mai così dura, ad assoli rinfrescanti e disinvolti come solo i grandi chitarristi sanno eseguire. Le percussioni sono essenziali e si impastano col basso nell'affresco che viene esaltato dal brillante lavoro in sala di registrazione.

A short distance from the debut album of the same name, out the end of March, the Druid came back with this new three tracks EP, recorded in April, which propose two original songs and a cover, Sonic Titan, from the Sleep's songbook. If with the previous work had focused on aspects of the evolved psych/stoner  sound, influenced by pollination and commingling with  early 70s hard/progessive feelings, here they explore the doom side, introspective, heavier and less experimental of their art. They proceed by subtraction from the large sonic palette of previous work and maintain the general mood drier, solemnly heavy, menacing and littered with great guitar riffs, now trademark of the trio from Athens, OH. The Druid immersed themselves in the  Blue Cheer River to tone their personality, class and talent to create a work of mature crystalline variation on the the wall of sound theme. Greg Ornella does a brilliant work, as usual, at the controls, confirming to be  essential to forging this sound. The care is even more defined, with  essential timbre soaked with fantastic spaced guitar solos,  aggressive voices, but clean, and harmonies supported by precise drum sounds without frills. The sound is still loud and raw, as if to bend the universe to his will of masters of doom.

Altarsong opens the EP with a gait electric blues, with relentless drums that supports all the instrumental intro. Then the guitar slows his lashes changing its  registry when the voice come in full of  narcoleptic echoes. It begins again, resolute, to support a variable progression which borrows mantric techniques designed to stimulate the achievement of consciousness  through the mind expansion. Sonic Titan was performed by Sleep in their live acts with mystical transport to recite the touching verses "Look into the eyes of an enchanted being", "Plant from the moon and stars will help me see", "Enter the mind of an enchanted being". It does not appear in their official albums and is only available  on boottleg. His interpretation was neither obvious nor without its difficulties and pitfalls, but the Druid  reinventing it through a version of participatory and intense experience, a free form of measured doom, almost as if to lose in nature, becoming one with Mother Earth in a pagan yearning. Paper Square already shone doom discharge in the debut album. The guitar  intersperses devastating riffs, supporting a voice never so hard, for solos refreshing and casual as only great guitarists know how to perform. The percussions are essential and they are mixed with the bass in the webbing that is enhanced by the brilliant work in the recording studio.
